Özet: In the recent years, there has been an increasing demand to high precision position technology (GPS and INS) and digital sensor technology for up-to-date 3D geographic information systems in many applications. Digital imaging sensors considerably decrease the data processing effort. Basically, Mobile Mapping Systems are based on combining these two advanced system. The main qualities of mobile mapping system are the speed, completeness, and effectiveness accuracy of acquiring field data in a short time. Mobile mapping system is a unique technology making possible fast and mainly efficient geo-information data acquisition in urban areas.In this study, it has been given an overview of recent developments of mobile laser scanner systems. Within the paper the components, the workflow and the performance of the vehicle based “TOPCON IP-S2” system are described. It has been investigated the suitability of IP-S2 mobile LiDAR data for 3D city modeling applications.
