One Approach for Development and Assessment of ICT Teachers Competencies in Multimedia Educational Environment

Özet: The quality of today education is closely related to the digital competences of students, teachers and prospective teachers. The “digital natives”, according to Prensky [14], prefer quickly obtaining information, multitasking and networking, prefer graphical representation of information instead of text, expect immediate results, stimulus, awards and fun during the work and educational activities. The institutions responsible for ICT teachers training have to offer adequate methods and tools for development and assessment of their competencies relevant to the requirements of ICT society.We answered the requirements of “digital natives” students with multimedia educational environment based on the development and assessment of ICT competencies.We propose an approach for development of multimedia educational environment for training and assessment of competencies of prospective ICT teachers within the course “Computer Technologies”.We used the following methods:1. Study of basic concepts – multimedia educational environment, competency, competence.2. Study of standards for ICT teachers competencies.3. Modeling of multimedia educational environment based on the different multimedia objects and simulation tasks.In the proposed multimedia educational environment, the knowledge, skills and competencies are developed by the combination of text, graphics, sound, video, interactive demonstrations and simulations of problem solving.The assessment of competencies is grounded on interactive tests and simulation problem solving. The items in interactive tests are arranged according to Bloom’s cognitive levels – knowledge, understanding, analysis and evaluation. The simulation based tasks assesses levels of application and synthesis.In conclusions we discuss the advantages of use of multimedia educational environment for assessment of ICT competencies of prospective teachers.
