Özet: In recent years information technology is increasingly being used to more effective interaction between students and educators in education of many health problems. Hence, in this study we conducted our educational workshop about obesity as one of major health problems in worldwide using computer software. The main objective of this study was to investigate the effect of educational workshop on learning about obesity and its measurement indicators using spinal shrinkage in students of medical sciences of Birjand University. In this quasi-experimental study, 195 students of medical sciences of Birjand University in six different fields participated separately in a one-day educational workshop. In the first step, using PowerPoint software was explained about various aspects of obesity. Then students in each educational workshop were divided in 3 groups to measure parameters of anthropometric and spinal shrinkage. The questionnaire was filled out before educational intervention and after four week. The obtained data were analyzed by SPSS16 and P< 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Paired t-test showed a significant difference between knowledge mean score of the students before and after educational intervention. Also, ANOVA showed a significant difference between the spinal shrinkage scores of the students and BMI. In addition, Pearson correlation test showed a positive correlation between the spinal shrinkage score and the BMI score. With regard to importance of obesity topic in the world especially in adolescences, it seems essential training about obesity with focus on spinal shrinkage using computer in medical sciences universities.
