Observation of peer bullying in Turkish primary schools according to different variables

Özet: The purpose of this study was to provide an infrastructure for the preventive studies on peer bullying, discovering the relationships between the bullying in the primary schools in Turkey and different variables. This study is a survey within the context of descriptive method. The research group consisted of randomly selected 504 students, in the fourth and fifth grades of the primary schools in the provincial centre of Trabzon in the first semester of 2009-2010 academic year. 250 of them were fourth grade students, and 254 of them were from fifth grade. Also, 239 of the participants were female while 265 of them are male. The result showed that there was a significant relationship between the attitudes of parents, success and socio-economic level, order of birth, gender and bullying behavior and its types. The findings obtained in this study were discussed within the frame of literature and some suggestions were proposed to central and local authorities, teachers and parents.
