Özet: Today emission of heavy metals to the environment has increased by rapid industrialization, intensiveindustrial activities, extensive usage of fossil fuels to obtain energy, rapid discharge of mines and increasedautomobile usage. Metals, particularly heavy metals have a great impact on environmental pollution because oftheir long term and destructive effects on organisms. Biological systems, especially plants and lichens are alsoused effectively and successfully to detect the atmospheric pollution in beside instrumental methods. In depthanalysis by addition of molecular biological techniques to environmental pollution studies with lichen, providenot only information about the degree of pollution in the subject area but also provide the identifi cation of theextent of pollution levels directly from the genetic structure of living organisms .
