Özet: In Islamic legal thought ıjttihad (juristic reasoning) has a significant role. It’sthe most important function is to provide dynamism for the law thought. At the firstperiods ıjtihad method puted into practise successfully by the Islamic jurists. Butafterwards emerged a thought that the “gate of ıjtihad” is closed. This thought affectedthe ıjtihad negatively. In this article we deal with the theoretical dimension andhistorical development of ıjtihad.
