Özet: Due to the high corrosion resistance of stainless steels in general, AISI 316L stainless steel is used in various industrial sectors. In addition, it is used as an implant material in the medical field due to its high corrosion resistance and features such as biocompatibility. Although it has such good properties, its poor wear performance and low hardness limits the areas where this steel is used in the industry. Along with the advancement of technology, many coating methods have recently been brought up to change the surface properties of the materials. One of these coating methods is boronizing. Boronizing, which is a thermochemical diffusion process, is the process of diffusing boron atoms onto steel surface at high temperatures. Boronizing process provides properties such as low friction coefficient, high corrosion, surface hardness and wear resistance. AISI 316 L stainless steel is boronized at different temperatures (1073, 1123, 1173 K) and times (2, 4, 6 hours). Surface and phase properties of the coating layers obtained were made with the help of optical and XRD analysis. The hardness of the boronized AISI 316 L stainless steel was measured using the Knoop tip. Diffusion kinetics was calculated with the Arrhenius equation.
