Özet: The region of Eastern Anatolia has a significance regarding the tradition of folk tales, among its province, Kars is especially important in that sense. Due to the long term Russian occupation and sharing borders with Iran, Georgia and Azerbaijan, the tradition of folk story telling has been flourished in this province. In this work, “toy” (wedding) in the folk stories collected from Âşık Şevki Halıcı by Fikret Türkmen is to be studied. Âşık Şevki Halıcı was born in Akçale village in Çıldır county in Kars province in 1930. He was heavily influenced from Çıldırlı Âşık Şenlik. In his stories, phonetic influences from Azerbaijani Turkish can be seen. In his fifteen stories, all except two have happy endings. After many struggles, the hero and heroine achieve their goal, during their wedding the âşık who is also the storyteller sing a happy folk song (muhannes). This is called “duvaggapma” or “toy”. These songs could be authored by the âşık or belong to his previous master. In the stories of Âşık Şevki Halıcı, there are toys authored by the poet himself, Çıldırlı Âşık Şenlik, Âşık Elesger, Şair Nebi and Göyçeli Âşık Musa.
