Özet: The literary text written for children or adapted to them must include both artistic and educational features. While reading the text, the child will reach the artistic point of view on the one hand and will be indirectly educated on the other hand. The work that falls within the scope of children's literature should not educate directly but indirectly. For this reason, literacy should be determinative in text selection, and message concern should not override the value of the text. Literary texts compel their readers, oblige them to engage in intellectual activity and production. The subject is also a decisive factor in text selection. Choosing a topic that the child is not overly unfamiliar with reduces the risk of distancing from the text and reading action from the very beginning. Again, presenting a very familiar and familiar subject to the child may cause the child to get bored. Then, a text in which the subject matter is skillfully balanced will be most appropriate for communicating with the child. This can be done through a complicated and time-consuming text selection process. In Mustafa Cemiloğlu's book on Teaching Turkish in Primary Schools, there are texts in which topics from the child's world that may be of interest to him are included. The main thoughts and feelings in these texts are the human feelings and behaviors that the child should acquire or have to be gained to the child before. The heroes in the texts are suitable for exhibiting behaviors that will set an example for children. In the book subject to review, there are generally literary texts written in plain language. Regardless of the grade level, the texts to be included in Turkish textbooks should be suitable for the child in all respects. The people who will choose these texts should be experts in choosing literary texts suitable for the children's age levels. When the textbooks are filled with texts that will bore the child, the lesson in which that text will be examined will be boring; children will be away from Turkish lessons and reading books. It should not be forgotten that Turkish textbooks are an important step in acquiring a reading habit for many children who did not have a reading habit before.
