Özet: The social and cultural life, traditions and customs of Baku and nearby settlements on the coast of the Caspian Sea are very colorful. Despite the occupation of tsarist Russia, and then the Soviets, Baku residents tried to preserve their traditions and customs as much as possible. During the Soviet period, the Nowruz festival and religious ceremonies were banned in order to make people forget about national and religious affiliation. After Stalin's death, these prohibitions were somewhat relaxed. Despite Soviet censorship, closed borders prevented some customs and traditions from being forgotten. Some traditions have been naturally renewed due to migration, urbanization and other changes. In Soviet times, the ethnography of Baku and its environs was not subjected to detailed study. After gaining independence, research in this area was limited to the book of Tevekkul Selimov. Rituals are an important tool for the transmission of social memory from generation to generation. Despite the development and progress of medicine in the 21st century, traditional medicine and religious magical practices continue to live. This article discusses the rituals and practices of removing the evil eye, suffering, fear, used by folk healers and ojakzadeh in Baku and the surrounding settlements, which have not been collected and studied. The compilation was made from the source persons from Baku and the surrounding settlements, and these materials were evaluated in the context of Turkish mythology and Turkish culture. Thus, in this study, an attempt was made to study and record part of the intangible cultural heritage of Baku and nearby settlements. As a result of our research, we have witnessed that many rituals are now forgotten and not practiced. Today, to avoid the evil eye, a simple peganum harmala incense is performed, and a childag ritual is performed to get rid of fear. The ritual of the end of ordeal is practiced only at condolence meetings in the form of shaking the tablecloth. Religion is also seen to permeate some magical rituals.
