Özet: In this work, two Turkish fairy tales, ‘The Enchanted Pomegranate Branch and the Beauty’ and ‘The Golden Apple,’ collected from Anatolia by Elsa Sophia von Kamphoevener (1878–1963), a German fairy tale teller and Hungarian Turcologist Ignacz Kunos (1860–1945) will be explored in terms of the matriarchal symbols they contain. These symbols will be compared with similar symbols of non-Turkish mythologies, and thus, it will be possible to see the traces of other cultural circles in Anatolia or regions close to Anatolia on Turkish culture. These two fairy tales were included in the study because the matriarchal symbols of the mentioned type are frequently used and are more apparent than have been come across in many other fairy tales. The matriarchal symbols examined are related to the sacrificial ceremony of son/lover/god/king and the sacred marriage of son/lover/god/king and goddess/queen. These symbols will be discussed through the following myths: god Attis and goddess Cybele in Anatolia god Dumuzi and goddess Inanna in Sumer Theseus, the legendary king of Athens and Princess Ariadne Jason, the leader of the Argonauts, and Princess Medea.
