Özet: Exploratory data analysis (EDA) provides insights into data patterns that can be used in economic research. Its advantage lies in its ability to produce excellent model structures. Unfortunately, EDA methods have become neglected, being rarely used nowadays in practice. As a result, many cases in the empirical research now contain misleading inferences. This paper offers a brief history, followed by a description of EDA and its major tools. Two examples help to explain the use of these tools in research and the interpretation of the findings they yield.
