Özet: Contemporary economic research is increasingly characterized by an inordinate focus on the small details of a given subject area and a tendency to view empirical methods as a goal of the research. This paper provides a starting point to understand the path towards this structure and makes a general overview of research activities in the field of economics. As factors leading to this path, we consider rapidly advancing technology and the ever-present pressure on academics to publish so as to climb the career ladder. We aim to offer observations and thoughts on how such factors shape the academic research environment of today.
