Özet: The state has always been a leading actor during the development process of all developed economies. Newly industrialized countries following Second World War particularly in East and Southeast Asia such as South Korea, Taiwan, Singapore and Hong Kong, as well as Japan, are all studied using the concept of “Developmental State”. The scope of the paper is to criticize this literature from a political economic perspective. Thus, it is attempted to explain the contradictions that developmental states take place in theory and practice, and to state that they have oppressive and exploitative nature in the capitalist context.
