Özet: Sight distance is an important design criterion for traffic safety in the geometry of highway and road design. The importance of providing adequate sight distance for safe and efficient traffic is recognized by researchers and most standard design manuals. Horizontal curves and crest vertical curves are the common sight restrictions considered in highway design. Technical road standards used before 1991 in Albania were based upon outdated standards. Currently, road design standards have been changed receiving considerable European standards. This paper analyses the sight distance estimation criterion using the upgrade manually. For this purpose, old Albanian road design examples have been studied based on geographic information systems. Problem identification evidence and implementation demands have done using upgrade standards.
