Özet: Abstract Primary school teachers have an important role and responsibility in improving their students’ vocabulary knowledge. The variety of methods and techniques that teachers use while teaching vocabulary is a crucial and efficient variable in improving students’ vocabulary. Considering the importance of vocabulary teaching, in this study, it is aimed to identify the methods and techniques that teachers use while teaching vocabulary and the problems they encounter. The descriptive model was used to present the findings of the study. The study was carried out with 25 primary school teachers from Ankara. The data was collected through an interview form consisting semi-structured questions. The data was recorded and investigated through descriptive and content analysis techniques. Findings revealed that the method and techniques that the teachers use while teaching vocabulary didn’t show variety. Furthermore, that the words to be taught are abstract and the students heard them for the first time seem to be a reason for their forgetting of them in a short span of time.
