Özet: Parkinson’s disease is a chronic and slowly progressing neurodegenerative disease characterized by the degeneration of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra. Currently, the treatment strategies of Parkinson’s disease can only alleviate motor symptoms but not prevent from neurodegeneration. In recent years, among the treatment approaches for the pathophysiology of the disease, there is a rapid increase in publications related to drug and/or drug candidates targeting neuroinflammatory mechanisms in the disease. In this review, we summarize the neuroinflammatory mechanisms and treatment approaches that modify neuroinflammation in Parkinson’s disease and present the recent preclinical and clinical data on possible drug candidates. The interactions between neuroinflammation and degeneration in dopaminergic neurons must first be elucidated in order to develop novel drug candidates targeting neuroinflammatory mechanisms in Parkinson’s disease.
