GENDER INEQUALITY AND DOMESTIC VIOLENCE INTERACTION: A QUALITATIVE RESEARCH ON UNIVERSITY STUDENTS

Özet: Gender-related inequalities are more common in developing countries. From this point of view, the opinions and perception of gender inequality and the relationship between gender inequality and domestic violence were tried to be put forward through a qualitative research in the sample of university students. This research was designed in the phenomenology design which is a qualitative research method to obtain primary data. In this study, semi-structured open-ended questions were asked to 10 university students who were determined by random sampling method. According to the findings of the research, participants stated that they were absolutely against domestic violence in general and that women and children were more exposed to violence in the family. Cultural factors and the type of upbringing, domestic violence, lack of education, negative effects of the media and women's economic freedom were the reasons for violence. In conclusion, in this study; university students perceived a positive relationship between gender inequality and domestic violence.
