Özet: Policies to combat poverty represent a key part of Latin American governments of the “left turn” in 2000 to legitimize their exercise of state power. However, from the Alianza País Ecuadorian government’s case, studied between 2007 and 2013, one can see that these policies have negative effects on social organization and mobilization skills, through processes of cooptation, bureaucratization and criminalization of social movements, which resemble fighting poverty to a war against the poor.
