Özet: The roles of the interdisciplinary epistemological perspective in the creation of methodologies, conceptions and styles of approaching educational, scientific and social critique issues have been considered. Specifically, the historical and conceptual background of the ways in which this conception has influenced the development of a “European intellectual tradition” that includes models for an integral human formation, the production, organization and unification of knowledge, as well as the criticism of contemporary capitalist society, is analyzed. The role of this perspective in the development of a “Latin American intellectual tradition” that includes: (i) studies on the role of science and technology upon the achievement of an autonomous national development of Latin America, published in the years of the 1960 and 1970 decades; and, (ii) the impulse that various scholars and academic institutions have offered since then to the epistemological development of the interdisciplinary approach, and its applications to social-economic-political-environmental problems, is considered.
