Özet: The following article arises in light of the Latin American governmental policies of the late twentieth century that consisted of “making the indigenous live”. In this context, tourism emerges as an immanent condition for the commercialization of the original culture and Indigenous Tourism is categorized as self-managed projects by indigenous communities in order to promote economic and human development, eradicate poverty and insert themselves in a market strongly linked to the dynamic “domination-dependence”, which structure the relationships between “developed” populations and “developing” communities. This results in a constant identity reconstruction of the receiving culture and suggests -in a matter of urgency- the investigation of this problem in order to plan policies of community awareness and cultural sustainability.
