Özet: The educational processes has been enriched by the use of information and communication technologies (ICT), in research, the exchange of learning and the production of materials to socialize local knowledge. However, the inequality that exists in rural communities generates a digital gap and therefore a digital division in education. Likewise, some problems identified in the region of the Sierra de Santa Marta, located in the southeast of the state of Veracruz, are the loss of the biocultural heritage and the disuse of the mother tongues. Since its founding, the Universidad Veracruzana Intercultural has made enormous efforts to shorten this digital gap, promoting digital knowledge and skills for the use of ICT, which is a way in which indigenous and afro-descendent students can exert their cultural rights, through the spread of their local languages, traditions and empirical knowledge.
