Özet: The purpose of this study is to determine elementary school students beliefs about the success and failure in music classes and to analyze the data in the perspective of attribution theory. In the study 2 open-ended questions were taken and analyzed from 163 students studying at Fatmagul Ozpınar and Maresal Fevzi Cakmak Elementary Schools in Antalya. The students were asked “Do you think you are successful in music lessons?” and “What causes do you think your success and failure in music?” The analyses of data showed that students attribute their success and failure in music lessons to several causes. Students attribute their success to studying exams, liking music and music lessons, teacher characteristics, attitudes towards lessons, their ability and effort. They attribute their failure to not having talent, negative behaviors of their other friends in the classroom, not liking the songs and decline to study for music lessons.
