Özet: The purpose of this study is to describe the school culture of the state and private primary schools by teacher and students’ perception. Research model was surveying model. The population of this research is teachers and students in primary schools in the metropolitan area of Izmir. The research sample consisted of 567 teachers and 746 students, working and studying in 25 primary schools in the metropolitan area of Izmir in 2010-2011. The data on school culture was obtained by using School Culture Scale which is developed by the researcher. Data was analyzed through arithmetic means, standard deviation and t-test. The findings of the research indicate that private primary school teachers' scores about perceptions of school culture are higher than those of state primary school teachers’. This perception is just the opposite on the basis of students. High cultural perception is seen at the state primary schools rather than private schools.
