Özet: Avant-garde qualifies the experimenter artists who deny the approved and valid sense of art of the day and their works. The French-origin term avant-garde was used for the creators who preceded the general criteria and did things which hadn’t been done before as of the 19th century. Berio, Nono, Maderna, who were the important representatives of avant-garde music in 1960s beginning in the late 1950s, turned towards free 12-tone-music and formed the Italian school of avant-garde music of 1960s. The contemporary music movement, which was shaped by Boulez, Stockhausen, Berio, Nono, Maderna, Cage, Carter, Babitt during the period including 25 years between 1945 and 1970 after the World War II, went under the name of Avant-garde.
