Özet: In the 2012-2013 academic years, children who were in 60-66th month old and older than 66th month old had an opportunity to begin the school. In this way, 5-6 and 7 years old children attended to the same first grade classes. The purpose of this research study was to examine first grade children’, teachers’ school adaptation experiences. The qualitative case study method was used and through purposeful sampling techniques three schools from low, middle and high socio-economic statuses in Denizli were selected to participate in the study. Data generated through in-depth interviews with the teachers and parents of the first graders. Research analysis revealed that previously attending early childhood programs and positive developmental status positively affected children’s school readiness and adaptation. On the other hand, schools’ inadequate physical conditions and age range of children were among the factors that negatively impacted on children’s school adaptation.
