Özet: The purpose of this study is to identify the reasons of teacher candidates to pursue a master's degree. The study group consists of teacher candidates requesting for a master's degree who study in Dicle University, Ziya Gökalp Education Faculty, Primary Education Department in 2013 Academic Year. This research is a descriptive study which has been carried out by content analysis, a qualitative research pattern. Unconfigured interview, a qualitative research method, was used in this research. According to the findings of the research, teacher candidates stated their reasons in order as follows: Building an academic career, specializing in their fields, doing academic researches, being helpful in the community, advantages in comparison with being a teacher, concerns for the appointment and future, financial concerns, problem sabout military draft and admiring academics. Although concerns for the appointment and future were one the reasons of some of the 4th graders, no such reasons were stated among 3rd graders.
