Özet: It is aimed the development of 6th grade students’ cognitive modelling competencies in Mathematics Application course and in this direction the purpose of this research is to present an implementation suggestion to enable the so-called development. The cognitive modelling competencies are understanding the problem, simplifying, mathematizing, working mathematically, interpreting and validating in parallel with the stages of modelling cycle. The study is conducted as a participatory action research study and the teacher and the researcher work collaboratively throughout the process. While the students were enabled to get accustomed to modelling applications in the first implementations, then it was worked on the development of certain cognitive modelling competencies in accordance with the identifies problems in the next implementations. It was seen the students developed their competencies of understanding the problem, simplifying, mathematizing and working mathematically effectually. Besides it was focused on the development of especially the interpreting and validating competencies to enable the development of those. After the implementation of twelve action plans, it was identified the students developed their cognitive modelling competencies explicitly and then it was decided to complete the study.
