Özet: Our values in our personal and social life are an important and indispensable part of our lives. We even direct our lives and make decisions in accordance with these values. The major part of the values we share with the society are acquired in educational institutions. Therefore, the opinions of classroom teacher regarding the education process of universal and humanitarian values are very important. The purpose of this study is the determination of the applied methods and techniques of classroom teachers during the education process of “universal” and “humanitarian” values at the elementary school level and the effects of the family, school and environment on this process. This is a qualitative study conducted for the evaluation of the education process of universal and humanitarian values in elementary school students under the consideration of the opinions of classroom teachers. The study group of this study is consistent of primary school classroom teachers working in various schools in the Province of Sakarya during the 2014-2015 school year. The data was obtained from 30 teachers with the face-to-face interview method and observation forms containing 6 questions. The data obtained from the interviews was analysed with the descriptive analysis method. According to the results obtained from the study, the methods for the student acquisition of universal and humanitarian values which are mostly used by classroom teachers are drama, case studies and empathetic thinking. If the effects of this on the students is considered, the teachers pointed out that they were also considering being a role model during the internalisation process of the universal and humanitarian values. They expressed the opinion that, during the acquisition process of universal and humanitarian values the cooperation of the family-school-environment and the consistency thereof is important, that the support of the family is always a necessity and that the environment is very important. As a result it can be inferred that, the obtainment of efficient results from value education techniques and raising “good individuals” is dependant on the unification of these techniques together with other school subjects under an inter-disciplinary approach and the ensurance of the wilful and effective support of the participants and conduction of systematical and planned studies. This conducted study is important regarding the determination of the methods in used by elementary school classroom teachers for the education of values and the importance of the family and environment during this process. It aims to provide explanation for the positive and negative effects of the effectiveness and other factors of teacher behaviours during the value teaching process.
