Özet: The aim of this study is to investigate the level of pre-service mathematics teachers in using symbolical and verbalre presentation whichare of multiple representations of derivatives. The research formed on the basis of case study method, were held with the perticipations of 66 pre-service mathematics teachers. Data, collected with an open-ended questionairre prepared before, analyzed by descriptive analysis. At the end of the analyses, it is determined that the participants used the symbolical representations of derivative more effectively compared with verbalre presentations, moreover, among the symbolical representations, the representation 12dfdx"> (mostly applied in using differentiating rules) were used effectively rather than 12limx→afx-f(a)x-a"> ( at at pointused for expressing the concept of derivative) and 12limh→0fx+h-f(x)h"> ( used in calculating the derivative function of a function applying the definition of derivative). In accordance with the results, it is thought that preparing a teaching environment that put importance on each multiple representations on thetopic of derivative and support the transition among them will increase the rate of properuse of representations.
