Özet: The adoption of Western thought, institutions and rules have a long history in process of Turkish modernisation and westernisation. Imitating represantative democracies of the West has also been a long process in the history of Turkey. However, economic, social and cultural reasons, which led to the creation of represatative democracies in the West, did not exist in Turkey at that time. Thus, Turkish democracy remained imitative, imaginary and tutelary for a long time. The democratic rules and institutions could not be stabilised and negatively affected. Opposition and opposite thoughts that accepted as indespansible elements of representative democracies have also been affected from those negative effects. There always has been a negative behaviour against opposition and opposite thoughts. This article analyses the position of opposition in modernising Turkish democracy. The reasons for inefficiency of opposition and unjustified opposition to the opposition by the government.
