Özet: In this study, the role that local food plays on destination choice was investigated from the point of view of tourists visiting Izmir Peninsula. In the scope of the study, a field research was conducted on domestic and foreign tourists (n = 430) who visit Izmir peninsula. The results of the study showed that local food did not play a prominent role when the tourists were making their preferences of the Peninsula, however, they liked the local food as a result of eating experiences they went through while they were staying in the region, and there was a lack of promotion of local food
