Özet: Anatolia is a geography that has many Pyrus (ahlat) taxa and known as a gene center. Pyrus (ahlat) is one of the taxa grows naturally in the Muş/Malazgirt region. In the researches carried out in the region, after the determination of morphological and pomological characteristics of the taxa in nature, the information related on its place and importance in regional culture has gathered together. The taxon that grows in the region is defined as Pyrus elaeagnifolia Pallas subsp. kotschyana [Boiss.] Browicz. It has been determined that this taxon has gained the appreciation of the local people and has an important place in folk culture and that a conscious approach has developed over time for the taxon. The cultural memory about the taxon from the past has been carried to the present day, however, this culture is under erosion depending on the changing living conditions of the local people. The fact that the region still preserves its local traditions, customs and traditions can be considered as an indication of not only being dependent to nature but also having a strong bond to it.
