Özet: Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder that can be encountered in any race and ethnic origin. Although the prevalence and distribution of ASD in many countries is not known, it is stated that the incidence is increasing worldwide. Depending on the degree of the disorder, individuals with ASD may be dependent on others to maintain their lives. Autism should be diagnosed early and the intervention process should be managed well in order to gain life skills that can lead to living independently. Researches in this area reveal that the age at diagnosis is delayed, which leads to a delay in accessing ASD-specific interventions and managing problems that occur simultaneously. In this lifelong disorder, both individuals with ASD and their caregivers face many problems that restrict their participation in social life. The main condition for the elimination of these problems is the development of appropriate policies by considering all aspects of the ASD. This study evaluates the ASD with public health perspective starting from history and then etiology, risk factors, diagnosis, treatment, ASD prevalence in world and Turkey, screening of ASD in Turkey and finally commentates conditions of health, care, education, employment of individuals with ASD in Turkey.
