Özet: Studies on ceramic slips reveal the interaction or interrelation between contemporary cultures. On the other hand, similar objects/products produced by cultures that lived at different periods but shared the same geography, do not show such an interaction. Therefore, in this article, which deals with the similarities between Urartian red pottery and “Tophane Pipes” and a possible relationship, the temporal gap creates a large problem. However, the common feature of both cultures is that they have existed in the Van Region. Similarly, both cultures should have benefited from the features offered by geography and geology. It is certain that the slip soil of the Urartian red slipped bright pottery was obtained around the Van region. Ceramic slip, produced from a kind of red soil, is still used by women potters in Bitlis province. In terms of production technology, there are also similarities between Urartian red slipped, shiny wares and Tophane Pipes. This article aims to examine the various aspects of similar red slip obtained by two different cultures.
