Özet: The Muslim minority, now living in Europe and coming from the 1960s as a migrant labor, has become permanent. In most European countries, the Muslim immigrant population has reached the third generation. The third generation, in contrast with the first generation, plays a much morea ctive role in representing their identity in the public sphere as a result of their knowledge of native language and their born and growth in Europe. The attempted representation in this public sphere resulted in the emergence of a series of social crises caused by having different World views between the host community and Muslim immigrants in Europe. In this study, it was aimed to analyze the headscarf and cartoon crisis. In this respect, the ideological and cultural reasons that underlie both crises have been examined in view of the perspectives of European society and Muslim immigrants. The study also focused on the content of these ideological and cultural reasons that led to different forms of understanding in both communities. As a result of thes tudy, it was concluded that there is a mutual lack of social understanding and empathy in both crises. This lack of understanding and empathy also prevented the breakdown of inter-communal prejudices and the establishment of a dialogue environment.
