Özet: There are two main branches in Turkish religious music. First one is mosquemusic and the other one is dervish lodge music. Hymn is the common form used inboth branches. Hymns are chanted and played for the purpose of exhilaration duringthe dhikr (invocation). Usul hymns are one of the the most important type of dervishlodge hymns. Usul hymns are chanted after “kelime-i tevhid” dhikr (La ilahe illallahthere is no god but Allah) and when Allah dhikr or “devran” begins. Usul hymns arecomposed of selected poems that are artful and impassioned containing secretmeanings that mention the ways of a particular religious order and praise about its pîr(sage, founder of an order)
