Özet: Abd al-Qadir Maraghi is one of the most prominent theorists of Turkish music. He isthe most important representative and performer of systemic school. In this sense, one of thebiggest problems of Turkish Music history is to find out more about his life most of which isfairly unknown. The main reason behind that is there have been cases of negligence whenrevealing information about his life even from his own writings. This paper focuses on thenew findings revealed from his work and the things overlooked by the researchers. The factthat the usage of the term “uncertain” still preserves its place in encyclopedias for his date ofbirth actually reveals that some information written by Maraghi himself has gone unnoticed.This paper is formed by new findings about Maraghi's life made by various researchers so farand some other new findings. Since Maraghi's life is discussed chronologically, his works are,too, placed in chronological order in this paper which includes new findings that are discussedand introduced for the first time such as that one of his earlier works named Kitab-ı Lahniyye was mistakenly thought to be another work of his named Makasıdül-elhan and the manuscript named Kenzül-elhan located at the Tahran-Melik Library which was confirmed by manybiographers was actually another work of his called Camiül-elhan. Also, Rhythmic Cycles(Usul) invented by Maraghi have been evaluated by researchers as "contradictory" because ofdifferent explanations in his various books. It has been revealed from his works that Maraghimade changes in Rhythmic Cycles (Usul) with methods named "splitting in half" (tansif) and"splitting into pieces" (takti’).
