Özet: The aim of this study was to evaluate the orthorexia nervosa (ON) with social appearance anxiety and some related variables to orthorexia nervosa among the research assistants in medical faculty. This is a cross-sectional study conducted on research assistants. The questionnaire form included some sociodemographic characteristics, questions about some variables related to orthorexia, the Orthorexia Nervosa Scale (ORTO-11) and the Social Appearance Anxiety Scale. Study group was consisted of 102(44.3%) were male and 128(55.7%) were female, their ages ranged from 24 to 50 years, the mean age was 29.10±3.66 years. Total scores was obtained from ORTO-11 ranged from 15.0 to 41.0, the mean was 28.23 ± 4.70 and the median was 28. In the study group, 127(55.2%) individuals reported that they had no regular eating habits and 170(73.9%) reported that they consumed fast food. Furthermore, 132(57.4%) of the research assistants were not pleased with their current weight and 140(60.8%) had normal body mass index. Research assistants reported that while buying packaged food, 25(10.9%) did not pay attention to any product information, and among those who paid attention, the expiration date (54.0%) was the most common. Multiple linear regression analysis found that, age, attention to organic food consumption, fast food consumption, daily weighing status and being pleased with their weight were related variables with orthorexia. Considering that the research assistants want to live a healthy, quality and longer life, it is possible that the orthorectic tendency will increase in the future by paying more attention to healthy nutrition. Given these premises, orthorexia may cause a significant health problem in the future, so further research on this subject and working on larger groups would be beneficial.
