Özet: Subaltern classes can be described as disadvantaged groups, which are marginalized and ignored. Subalternity, as a reality, is culturally shaped and the reason for the silence of the subaltern is that he cannot make his voice heard. The aim of this study is to think about the subaltern and the other in cinema through the films directed by Deniz Gamze Ergüven, and to determine how these concepts are handled in the stories of different cultures from the same director’s gaze. In this sense, the films Mustang (2015) and Kings (2017) are examined and it is discussed whether the representations of subaltern take away the subalternity of the represented class. As a result, it can be stated that the main problem in subalternity is internalizing the subalternity of individuals and coding them in this way, although it may be linked to different reasons.
