Özet: The purpose of this study is to examine the fumigant effects of some plant essential oils and their selected monoterpenoid components to American cockroach (Periplaneta americana). In this study, Allium sativum, Allium cepa, Thymus vulgaris, Oregano dubium, Rosemarinus officinalis and Brassica nigra essential oils and carvacrol, citronella, cllyl isothiocayanate and eugenol were tested on the adults. Responses varied according to plant material, concentration, and exposure time. B. nigra plant essential oil and its monoterpenoid component derivate allyl isothiocyanate (100%), A. sativum (73%) O. dubium (13%) caused mortality of adults at the end of 24 hours exposure time; B. nigra plant essential oil and its monoterpenoid component derivate allyl isothiocyanate (100%), A. sativum (78%), A. cepa (46%), O. dubium (13%) and Cavracrol (6%) caused mortality of adults at the end of 48 hours exposure time. The other plant essential oils and their monoterpenoid components showed little or no mortality. The data obtained from this study indicate that A. sativum, B. nigra plant essential oils and allyl isothiocayanate monoterpenoid component have potential as fumigants for use against P. americana.
