Özet: In patriarchal societies the behaviors of women and men in public or private fields are being adopted through religious and traditional disciplines and by pressure. In addition, pre-determined roles based on sex are carried out by the society itself by similar pressure method within the family. The woman has a central position in the adoption of gender-based roles and the continuation of male hegemony. Because it is known that woman plays an important role when patriarchal power relations continue in favor of men. Therefore, it is necessary to study how the construction of masculine power in woman’s mind takes place in order to understand male hegemony better in patriarchal societies. This research aims to reveal the pressure on women to consent to hegemonic masculinity through religious teachings and traditional roles in the family and domestic relations, in addition to determine the ways hegemonic masculinity is accepted in women`s opinions and women’s reactions in the face of male power within the scope of gender roles serving the patriarchal system. The data used in this study was obtained by in-depth interview, which is a technique of qualitative research, with 20 women living in the city of Erzurum where the patriarchal gender regime prevails. As a result of the research, it has been observed that, a man has a significant role in a woman`s mind due to the reasons, that the women who are interviewed, both have low levels of education and are not economically independent, and the religious and traditional doctrines give particular importance to men. In addition, in a woman`s mind in patriarchal societies, it has been revealed that religious and traditional doctrines which are more important than the economy and woman plays an important role in maintaining male power.
