Özet: Smoking causes quite important problems in our health both in terms of individual and public health. The fact that cigarettes contain some addictive substances causes the individuals who become acquainted with smoking especially at a young age to become addicted to cigarettes in the following years. This situation draws attention to the importance of early ages for the prevention of smoking. Therefore, the aim of this study is to investigate the cigarette consumption of Cukurova University students. The cigarette consumption of the students is investigated using Heckman's two-stage method. Survey data applied to 300 students were used in the study. The obtained results indicate that increased income more than the growth of cigarette consumption. In addition, it was concluded that the presence of smokers in the family increased the consumption of cigarettes besides psychological factors such as stress and sedation.
