Özet: In Turkey, oil smuggling is an important problem that needs to be tackled. To ascertain whether the oil in circulation entered the country by lawful means and to prevent smuggled and non-standard oil from being sold, a national marker was adopted on 1 January 2007. This was done pursuant to art. 18 of the 5015 numbered Act on the Oil Market and the Regulation on the Application of the National Marker in the Oil Market. While there have been technical difficulties in the beginning, over time improvements were made and thanks to the efforts of the relevant authorities and the sector, they have been to a large extent overcome. It has now become one of the most important tools of control in the oil market.
