Özet: In the research, it was aimed at unearthing the views of nurses concerning the distance education. It was a descriptive-quantitative and a qualitative research. The research population was constituted by all the nurses (1015 nurses) who were living in Istanbul and receiving education in the Bachelor's Degree Completion Programme in Nursing carried out as web-based distance education by Atatürk University Distance Education Implementation and Research Center in the 2011-2012 academic year. The sample consisted of 198 nurses who were selected through random sampling and accepted to take part in the research. Data of the research were collected by the Information Form and Semi-Structured Interview Form prepared to determine their views on distance education. Data were analyzed through content analysis and frequency analysis techniques. The youngest nurse to participate in the research was age average was 39,69±4,80. them were married (79,8%). nurses were serving in the tertiary healthcare services (41,9%), them were working as clinical nurse (35,9%). Nurses had been working as nurse for 17-22 years (46,0%). All the nurses expressed that they wanted to take part in another programme/education provided through distance education (91,4%). Nurses prefer distance education principally as "they cannot attend a formal education programme due to their working hours/working in shifts, they can have access to the working environment in conformity to their learning styles and rates, it facilitates their family life. It was reported that information and skills could be observing and practicing in distance education (83,7%). In our study, all nurses expressed that all programmes in nursing can not be given through distance education (83.8%). In conclusion, we recommend that instructors, who will plan, organise and prepare the distance education programmes, carry out researches and analyses to take the individual differences and expectations of nurses into consideration and start working to provide the nurses with continuing education programmes, postgraduate programmes, postgraduate continuing education programmes, certificate programmes through distance education.
