Özet: Personalized instruction is a method which takes into consideration individual characteristics, interests, and needs of students and organizes the learning environment accordingly. In this context, personalization of exam/course teaching questions, which can be seen as the personalization of the teaching content, can be given as an example to personalized instruction. This study was conducted to determine the effect of the use of personalized math problems on students' success. A mixed research design was employed consisting of the pre-‐test and post-‐test, the control group and the qualitative data. An interview technique which was structured with qualitative data collection techniques were used to obtain the perceptions/views of the students with the intention of supporting the quantitative findings. The participants of this study were the sixth graders from two classrooms at a public secondary school in Başakşehir district of Istanbul. The study findings suggest that the use of personalized math problems has a positive effect on the academic success of students. After the experiment was performed, the students were also interviewed about the way the course was taught. The answers the students gave to the open-‐ended questions on the structure form indicate that the students had positive perceptions about the use of personalized problems in math. They noted that this method helps to create a motivating and entertaining environment which provokes curiosity and boosts interaction in a setting closer to real life situations.
