Özet: The reducing (reduction) medium ceramic firing method is a less preferred firing method than the increasing (oxidative) medium. The enthusiastic results provided by the reducing environment have focused the attention of most ceramic artists on this method. Although the types of reducing medium firing methods show similarities, they have application differences among themselves. Generally, these firing methods have moved away from their first application purposes and have turned into new application areas. Firing ceramics in a reducing medium is a much more difficult application method than firing in an elevated medium. In this method, controlled firing usually does not happen, the loss can be high in every aspect. Despite such negativities, magical visuals affect many artists with the effective results as a result of the applications. In recent years, it is seen that most ceramic artists have made different experiments on this application method. Although it has maintained its popularity in every period due to these variable effects, the interest in this application method is increasing effectively. Another effective feature of the reduction firing methods is that they usually require collaborative work. With this positive feature, it also appears as a very good social interaction and learning method, and because of this aspect it is used as an effective tool in education. The article can also be seen as a presentation of our applications made for this purpose to some extent. Up-to-date analyzes have been made by making use of the relevant literature, together with the experience gained in many reducing medium trials since 1989. In the article, firstly the concept of reduction is discussed, then the prominent methods in the reducing environment are grouped. Due to the large number of reducing medium ceramic firing techniques, only the application methods made with unglazed bodies were emphasized and the knowledge and experience in this direction were conveyed.
