Özet:    Energy requirement increases day by day associated with technological changes and increasing life standards and energy conservation comes into prominence in many sectors. Energy conservation is much more important subject and needs to be addressed as just as energy consumption. To be aware of this subject is an important subject in our country which has limited energy sources. In recent years, research on renewable energy sources and thermal energy storage studies including phase change materials (PCM) gain acceleration in many sectors for energy saving. High volumetric storage and isothermal behaviours of PCMs are the most important reasons for their preferability. Diatomite is a natural raw material which has important deposit reserves in our country. The diatomite reserves of Turkey are 44.2 million tonnes. Although we have high quality deposits in our country, this raw material is underused. Overall economy can be improved after usage of this material at the right places and new usage areas. The nano-tubular structure of diatomite becomes important in preparation of composites. In this study, Diatomite/PCM composites were produced by using PCM which is also used in thermal energy storage studies. Composites were analyzed using Differential Scanning Calorimeter (DSC) and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). After DSC analysis, melting and freezing points were obtained as 41.97°C and 45.77°C, respectively. Latent heat storage capacities were obtained as +45 and -44 J/g. Analyses verify that PCM/Diatomite composites were produced successfully and they can be used in thermal energy storage applications.
