Özet: Light pollution, causes and effects have become a social problem that is frequently being discussed. With the development of lighting technology together with modernization, urban lighting problems have appeared in different dimensions. Light pollution grows uncontrollably due to problems in lighting. Along with light pollution, the natural balance is disturbed, visual discomfort arises, wasting limited energy resources, and adding an additional burden on the country's economy. In this study, the causes and effects of light pollution were examined. The correct urban and outdoor lighting principles are explained and examples are given in the light of these criteria. Brightness level was measured with digital light meter at 283 points in the city center of Niğde Province and values between 2-254 lux values were determined. Density map was obtained by light intensity analysis by Kriging method using MapInfo ArcGIS 10.02 software with the obtained values. The values were examined in terms of general lighting rules and light pollution, problems in the study areas were determined through photographs and solutions were suggested.
