Özet: The aim of this study has two folds; to determine the performance of numerical hybrid wave model used in modelling of wave propagation by comparing the numerical results with the experimental results, which obtained in two different ways and to investigate the applicability of image processing technique, which has implemented to digitize the observed water surface profiles during the experiments, to similar studies. The numerical model is based on a hybrid solution of the Boussinesq equations. The hybrid solution has formed by the application of the finite volume method to the conservative part of the recast Boussinesq equations and finite-difference method to the remaining terms including the higher order dispersive terms. In this study, firstly, a series of experiments with various wave characteristics has been conducted in a flume in the hydraulic laboratory of civil engineering department at Niğde Ömer Halisdemir University. Then, the performance of the model was assessed by comparing the digitized water surface profiles obtained by reading and implementing image processing techniques. In addition, the extent of the applicability of image processing technique to digitize water surface profiles was evaluated.
